Learn How To Land Well Paid Jobs Freelance

Everyone wants to make a quick buck, but when you work freelance this is not exactly easy to do. It is important for aspiring freelance writers to have realistic expectations about the amount of money they are going to make freelance writing, especially when they are first starting out. Expecting to land high paying jobs without any previous experience is naive. Like many things worth doing you first have to start at the bottom and work the way to the top. You also have to develop a following and a portfolio of work before you can expect to land the “great” jobs that you want. It really helps if you diversify and don’t just work in a singular niche’. However, you also want to find out what you are good at and stick to that. Don’t bite off more than you can chew, and do not make unrealistic promises.

Start at The Bottom

Don’t expect to begin your freelancing career picking up amazing paying jobs right off the get go. Instead, begin with low expectations and set your prices and bids fair to land less paying jobs that will help you build your portfolio. It may not be ideal at first but trust that over time you will be qualified to apply for higher paying work. Also, have the confidence that as you improve people will be willing to pay more for your work because of its quality. The best advice is to start small and work your way up to the better paying work. Bidding on high paying jobs without the experience will likely leave you disappointed.

Create A Strong Portfolio

Most of the time when you apply for writing work you will be expected to submit examples of your work. If you do eventually want to find better paying jobs you should develop a strong portfolio that demonstrates your abilities. The best way to get a good portfolio started is by taking a wide variety of work regardless of the pay when you first begin. Eventually, you’ll find that you will be able to be more selective about the work you do because your portfolio is so strong.

Succeeding as a professional freelance writer has a lot to do with perseverance and constant improvement. Just because you cannot get the high paying jobs right away does not mean that you won’t get them someday. Consider your early days as an initiation into the world of freelancing. You have to pay your dues at the bottom and develop a portfolio before you will be able to qualify for decent paying work.
